Built on extensive discussions with experts throughout the world this Charter shows how to create a culture where people choose to walk. It identifies the needs of people on foot and provides a common way of looking at how to create a culture where people choose to walk.
We all have a role to play in developing the actions in the Charter. You can support the Charter by signing it and encouraging friends, colleagues, government bodies, and national and local organizations to work with you to help create healthy, efficient and sustainable walking communities throughout the world.

Many communities have signed the International Charter for Walking to signal their commitment to creating walkable communities. You can contact your elected official to find out if your community has signed the charter.
If your community has not signed the Charter, then consider starting or joining a group in your community to encourage your city or town to sign the Charter.
